FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) -- An Oklahoma death row inmate was sentenced to 25 years in the kidnapping of an Arkansas doctor and his wife.
Scott Eizember was sentenced in Fort Smith for kidnapping, carjacking and using a firearm during a violent crime.
He was convicted of kidnapping Doctor Samuel Peebles and his wife Suzanne in November 2003 when they picked him up near Waldron, Arkansas, after the car he'd stolen in Oklahoma ran out of gas.
Eizember then forced them to drive him to Texas where Peebles used a gun hidden in his car to shoot Eizember and escape. Eizember was arrested a short time later.
Eizember was convicted and sentenced to death in Oklahoma for the October 2003 murder of A-J Cantrell at Cantrell's home in Depew. He was also convicted and given life for killing Cantrell's wife Patsy and he was given 150 years for assaulting the mother and son of his ex-girlfriend, who lived across the street from the Cantrells.
