A family in Owasso was going hog wild Thursday night, after they spotted two pigs running through the neighborhood. So where did they come from and what do you do with them?
News on 6 reporter Steve Berg says it is not something Michele Rader has ever heard before. "My husband said there's some pigs runnin' down the street." And in the 14 years she's lived in their east Owasso neighborhood, it's not anything she's ever seen before. "We've seen cows and other dogs loose, but no pigs."
Fearing they might get hit by a car, the Raders went into pig pursuit. Daughter Brittany, a FFA veteran, tried out her trusty lasso. "Thought I could catch them, but I had to get some reinforcements with mom."
The Raders finally got them corralled in their backyard, which is now part pig-pen. They don't really look like farm pigs. And they're definitely scared of people. So could these be wild pigs? Michele Rader: "we think they could be part pot-belly, but we're not pig experts. A lot of them have either escaped or people have had pot-bellied pigs and they release them or they just breed and they meet up with other pigs and there’s groups of them all through the Midwest from what I’ve read on the Internet."
Rader also found out there's not really any agencies willing or able to deal with stray swine. "For now they're welcome, until they start digging up my flowers."
The Raders think they've found a temporary home for them on a nearby farm.
