NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The state medical examiner's office says a skull found during the weekend in Lake Thunderbird is very old.

Investigator Kevin Rowland says an initial examination indicates the skull is anywhere from 30 to 100 years old. Rowland also says the skull appears to have a large-caliber gunshot wound.

It was found Sunday afternoon by a 7-year-old boy who was swimming in the lake. Authorities say the boy stepped on the skull in the mud in about three feet of water.
