BOLEY, Okla. (AP) -- A state audit of Boley Public Schools could begin next week as officials try to find out why teachers in the Okfuskee County district haven't been paid for the past two months.
The audit was requested by state schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett after the district's independent audit found the school had overspent by more than $52,000 during the 2004-2005 school year.
State Education Department spokeswoman Shelly Hickman says records show the school has eleven certified teachers but she didn't know how many are affected by the financial situation.
Boley School Board president Henrietta Hicks confirms that teachers were not paid in June and July but declined further comment.
School Superintendent Gretana Gonzales Hall did not return phone calls for comment.
