STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Torre Johnson has been dismissed from the Oklahoma State basketball team, coach Sean Sutton said Tuesday.

Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound forward from Milwaukee, played in 30 games for the Cowboys as a junior last season, starting one. He was the team's third-leading scorer at 10.1 points per game and averaged 4.2 rebounds per game for the Cowboys, who finished 17-16.

Johnson transferred to Oklahoma State from Garden City (Kan.) Community College, where he received National Junior College Athletic Association first-team All-America honors as a sophomore.

Sutton did not say why Johnson was being dismissed and wouldn't comment beyond a prepared statement issued by the university.

``Torre and I had a discussion last Thursday evening,'' Sutton said in the statement. ``I feel that it is in the best interests of both he and our program that we part ways. We appreciate the contributions he made to the team last year and we wish him well in his future endeavors.''

Out of junior college, Johnson also was recruited by Arizona, Auburn, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Illinois, Creighton, Alabama-Birmingham, DePaul, Southern California, Texas A&M and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Johnson is the third player to leave Oklahoma State's team in a year. Freshman forward Roderick Flemings of DeSoto, Texas, left the Cowboys in March, before their first-round loss to Miami (Fla.) in the National Invitation Tournament.

Keith Brumbaugh left the team at the semester break last season due to eligibility issues surrounding an ACT score.
