Storm victims in Delaware County are starting to get help from FEMA.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is delivering mobile homes to tornado damaged parts of the county.
News on 6 anchor Craig Day says for William and Annie Husong, the demolition of their daughter's home is the end of one chapter in their family history and the beginning of a new one. The home couldn't be saved after a tornado ripped through Delaware County in March. William Husong: "There for a long time, she didn't know what she was going to do. The house is severely damaged. She's staying with relatives."
Their daughter, Amy Armbrister, will build a new home on the site. Until then, she'll stay in a mobile home provided by FEMA. Annie Husong: "You get really depressed. The days go on and it begins to look up and here comes the trailer down the road. It's amazing."
The 18 X 80-foot home was delivered only a few days ago. It's the first in Delaware County for storm victims. Several additional FEMA homes are also being set up in storm damaged sections of the county.
It's been a tough few months for many storm victims here in Delaware County. Some are staying with relatives; others are in RV's. For the victims getting help from FEMA, the mobile homes are a way to get back on their feet. The homes have three bedrooms and two baths and come fully furnished. Annie Husong: “It's just really, really good, really neat. We just couldn't believe it."
For the Husong's, it's hard seeing the old home go. But it's good knowing a new home has arrived. They're grateful their daughter and grandkids have a home.
Storm victims will get to stay in the FEMA mobile homes for up to 18 months.
