STATESVILLE, N.C. (AP) Bill Elliott may get behind the wheel this weekend if Scott Riggs doesn't heal from cuts suffered while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Evernham Motorsports says the NASCAR Nextel Cup driver suffered cuts to both feet on Monday while unloading a jet ski in an oyster bed. The wounds required 12 stitches in the ball of the left foot and eight stitches in the right big toe.

Elliott is semiretired. He will stand by as a possible replacement for Sunday's Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.

Riggs says he plans to race but will do what's best for his team.

He's 23rd in the season's standings, despite failing to qualify for the season-opening Daytona 500.
