SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) The Tulsa Drillers clinch their third straight Texas League North Division first-half title by beating the Springfield Cardinals 8-to-1.
Springfield had remained alive in the divisional race earlier Sunday, trimming Tulsa 3-to-2 in the completion of a baseball game that had been suspended because of rain Saturday.
Winning the first-half title qualifies the Drillers for the league playoffs in September, no matter the result of the second-half race.
In the second game, Ian Stewart's leadoff home run in the second inning gave Tulsa a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Drillers added five runs in the third, three of those on a home run by Jordan Czarniecki.
Pitcher Marc Kaiser allowed four hits, struck out four batters and walked none in eight innings for Tulsa.
