YUKON, Okla. (AP) -- The generosity of an oilman is helping send a group of Yukon High School students to Scotland for a chance at the world title in livestock judging.

Oilman Boone Pickens, known for his large gifts to his alma mater of Oklahoma State University, has given the Yukon team $2,400 to make the trip. The team members will leave on Wednesday.

The Yukon team won a national championship in October at the national FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. That qualified them for the Scottish National Compeititon and Royal Highland International Show in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The trip costs about $4,000 a student and team members were able to raise only $8,000. Kandee Penwright, the mother of one of the team members, called Pickens' office and wrote him a letter asking the oilman to donate money toward the team's trip.

Pickens says the fact the students either already attend or plan to attend OSU is a reason he donated the money.
