OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Environmental officials issue an ozone alert for the Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Lawton metro areas for today.
Officials say the metropolitan Oklahoma City area experienced last week some of the highest levels of air pollution ever recorded in June. That has them concerned that the central Oklahoma region is coming close to violating federal clean air standards.
Lawton has had several air quality days since May.
Ozone pollution problems usually are at their worst in July and August, but the region already has surprassed the recommended federal daily threshold of ozone level four times this year.
People are encouraged to ride on public transit, avoid mowing lawns and to wait until evening to refuel their vehicles.
