Backseat Buddies is a program EMSA began almost six years ago to keep children safe. And Tuesday, they hit a major milestone.
EMSA gave away its 6,000th car seat. It went to the Chissoe family. The Backseat Buddy program not only gives away car seats, but experts also inspect car seats to make sure they are installed properly and haven't been recalled.
EMSA says at every giveaway, there are usually only two car seats that have been installed right. Nitaya Chissoe says the program is important. "It feels good knowing I can get a car seat because I can't afford one, that's why I came. It helps out a lot."
The Chissoe's received two cars seats Tuesday plus a gift basket.
