GROVE, Okla. (AP) _ Mike McClelland caught 21 pounds, 9 ounces of bass to take the lead after the first day of the Bassmaster Elite Series' Sooner Run event on Grand Lake.

The Bella Vista, Arkansas, resident said he ran from one end of the lake to the other looking for specific brush and rock piles. He leads a field of the top 104 anglers in the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society in the largest BASS tournament ever at the northeast Oklahoma lake.

Timmy Horton of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, caught 21 pounds, 7 ounces of fish and was in second place after the first day of the four-day tournament.

Matt Reed of Madisonville, Texas, was third with 19 pounds, 6 ounces and was followed by Joe Thomas of Milford, Ohio, with 19 pounds and Paul Elias of Laurel, Mississippi, with 18 pounds, 13 ounces.
