YUKON, Okla. (AP) _ A Yukon man dies after police say an officer shot him when the man charged the officer with a knife.

Yukon Deputy Police Chief John Corn says the shooting happened about 6 PM Friday in a residential neighborhood and started with a call from the man's wife regarding what he calls a ``domestic situation.''

The woman told officers that her husband was holding her in their residence. Corn says that when officers arrived she escaped out the back door.

An officer walked to the back of the house. When the man -- who Corn says had a knife clutched above his head and threatened to kill the officer -- charged the officer, the officer shot him.

Corn says the officer has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting. Neither the officer nor the man who died has been identified.
