OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state House Thursday approved a bill to require anyone between 12- and 16-years old to pass a boater safety education course before operating a boat or jet skis.
Those 16 or younger would also have to be accompanied by an adult when operating a boat and the bill also prohibits anyone under 12 from operating a water craft that has a motor with more than ten horsepower.
It now goes to the governor.
The bill is named for Kyle Williams of Edmond who was 12 when he died in a jet ski accident on Lake Eufaula in August 2004.
Thursday would've been his 14th birthday and his parents, Will and Sue Williams, watched the vote from the state House gallery.
