NSU has announced plans Tuesday to drop the Redman mascot by the fall of 2007.

Northeastern State University president Dr Larry Williams, in an email to students and faculty, says Northeastern State University will begin a 15-month long process of finding a new mascot. He expects a new mascot to be unveiled by the start of the 2007 football season.

Dr Williams says it was in the best interest of NSU to find a new mascot.

The NCAA has asked colleges and universities with an American Indian mascot to conduct a review.
