BLACKWELL, Okla. (AP) -- A Ponca City man died after crashing a homemade gyrocopter in Kay County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Alan Lee Coats, 54, was piloting the helicopter-like aircraft near the Blackwell-Tonkawa Municipal Airport when it lost power and crashed about 5 PM Wednesday, the OHP said.

Coats was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene, the patrol said.
