A Tulsa Police chase ended with the fleeing suspect smashing in the top of a Tulsa man's car. It happened early Friday near 48th and Memorial. The suspect was arrested, The other man's car was destroyed.
As News on 6 reporter Ashli Sims explains, he's in surprisingly good spirits.
The story of how Lee Wiles's black Mitsubishi ended up at this Tulsa body shop was enough to shock even his insurance adjuster. "A curious chain of coincidences."
Wiles works a safety manager. He'd come back late from a training session and decided to leave his car in the only spot left in the company parking lot. "I got a phone call and our nightshift supervisor informed me that we'd had a little incident at work and I might not be too pleased with what had happened to my car."
About an hour earlier, a burglary suspect led Tulsa Police on a high speed chase that ended up right in front of Wiles' job. The suspect couldnt make the turn, took out this chain link fence and fell 15 feet. Lee Wiles says if his car hadn't been there, he doesnt think the suspect would have walked away from the accident.
The cars ended up roof to roof, the suspect managed to climb out of the mangled mess and tried to runaway. But Wiles, who is also his company's security manager, says they'd just started a new policy of locking the gate after hours. "Any other week the gate would have been open and people would have been able to come and go at will. But we had it locked up. So if it was going to happen, that was the perfect scenario for catching the suspect."
Wiles says no one was badly hurt, he's got pretty good insurance coverage, so he's trying to see the humor in the situation. He joked he's been trying to convince his wife they need a new car, anyway. Another coincidence, they were thinking about buying a Ford Taurus. And that's exactly what the rental car company gave him.
