BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Plans by appliance maker Whirlpool to cut 4,500 jobs will apparently have no impact on its plant in Tulsa.
Whirlpool announced the plans Wednesday as it consolidates operations resulting from its acquisition of rival Maytag.
The cuts affect Maytag plants in Arkansas, Iowa and Illinois, the former Maytag corporate headquarters and a research center in Newton, Iowa, and administrative offices in Illinois, Canada and Mexico.
At the same time, Whirlpool says it will create 1,500 jobs at other locations, making for a net loss of 3,000 jobs.
The company is behind a variety of brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air and Amana.
