A Broken Arrow police officer shot and killed a man Friday evening. Officers say the man may have shot at the officer first.
A woman living in Broken Arrow called police just after 6 PM and said her uncle was choking someone inside the house. This all happened in the 1100 block of Ironwood Place, that's near 71st Street, between Aspen and Elm.
When Broken Arrow Police arrived on the scene, officer Juan Jenkins said the man pulled out a gun and pointed it toward him. The officer said he fired more than one shot at the man, killing him. According to a police spokesman, the man's neice said he fired at the officer first.
Broken Arrow Police Sgt. Ed Ferguson: "We're still trying to make confirmation whether or not the suspect actually fired at the officer. But we know that the officer, after the weapon was brandished toward him, in self defense, fired at the individual and he was killed as a result of the officer's action."
Broken Arrow Police say they found a semi-automatic pistol close to the man's body. The man has not yet been identified.
Officer Juan Jenkins was not hurt and he has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
