MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Muskogee County authorities now say a woman whose body was found last week in a ditch on a rural county road died from blood loss.
Authorities had treated the case as a homicide ever since the woman's body was found Thursday morning. But Muskogee County Sheriff's Office investigator Tim Brown now says that homicide has been ruled out as a cause of death.
The Hispanic woman is thought to be in her early 40s. She was dressed and holding a bloody blue paper towel in her hand with another towel lying near her in the ditch. Authorities say she was already dead when someone placed her there late Wednesday or early Thursday.
Authorities think the woman might have been a transient and an illegal immigrant and have not been able to determine her identity.
