OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The state House voted for $3,000 teacher pay raises in the presence of about 90 teachers and union officials.

However, Democrats said Tuesday that Republicans hadn't really agreed to the salary increases and that the measure was loaded down with unneeded amendments, like expanded reasons on why a teacher could be fired.

Democrats say the amendments will be unacceptable to the state Senate.

The state Senate first proposed the $3,000 increases to accelerate Governor Brad Henry's plan to reach the regional average in teacher pay.
