Usually, the day before taxes are due, a Tulsa H&R Block waiting room would be crawling with panicky taxpayers. Not the case, this year.
Tim Lewis, Master Tax Advisor: "For Sunday normal its real slow and for today with it being Easter we didn't expect very much."
Most folks are out enjoying their Easter Sunday and settling up with Uncle Sam is the last thing on their minds. But millions still need to file their taxes. And while many are hunting easter eggs, the the folks at H&R Block are hunting for ways to save you money.
The experts say there's a few things to watch out for, before you make that mad dash to the post office. The Internal Revenue Service says entering the wrong social security number is one of the biggest mistakes filers make. They also advise last-minute filers to double check their math to make sure you've calculated your return correctly. And the IRS says folks in a rush often forget to sign and date their returns.
If you're going to let a professional handle your paperwork, Tim Lewis says its best, if you get your ducks in a row.
Tim Lewis: “be as organized as possible, can make it go alot quicker plus it makes the process a little more easier on the preparer and taxpayer."
And if you just can't get it done in time, you can always file an extension.
Tim Lewis: "its not an extension of time to pay the taxes its an extension of time to file a timely return the taxes are due April 17th at midnight." For all you true procrastinators, that's still plenty of time.
