A Green Country soldier has left the homefront headed to Afghanistan.

Gareth Johnston from Broken Arrow will spend a year in Afghanistan. The 23-year-old Army soldier flew out of Tulsa International Airport Tuesday morning.

His deployment begins next month, just weeks before his daughter will be born.

Johnston leaves behind very proud parents and a fiancÃ©e.
