DENTON, Texas (AP) -- People forced to leave the Gulf Coast because of hurricanes Katrina or Rita have until April 10th to register for federal assistance.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says evacuees living in Oklahoma and other states can apply for grants to pay for temporary housing and other needs.

Officials also say anyone waiting for an insurance settlement should register because the final check may not cover some expenses that are eligible for federal, state or local programs. Registration can be made by phone; 1-800-621-FEMA or online at www.fema.gov.
