Crime was a major factor in Campaign 2006 and Tulsa mayor-elect Kathy Taylor says she has a plan to fight crime and some Tulsans are saying they're relieved.
News on 6 anchor Tami Marler says the ladies at AARP Employment Services say many friends in their age group are concerned about their safety. Helen McCarty was born in Tulsa. She says she used to feel safe leaving her doors unlocked, but not anymore. "No, it's not safe anymore. And it's changed. So many things have changed."
Kathy Taylor: "We're going to change that. And we're going to change that perception. We have to. With the new arena, the downtown development, with the hopes for our river development, we've got to make this city safe and then we have to change that perception we've had."
During the campaign, Kathy Taylor vowed to make Tulsa seniors feel safe again. She studied a model that has worked for communities in 34 states.
The Triad Model coordinates law enforcement with senior community services and would create a police unit that specifically focuses on crimes against the elderly.
