WASHINGTON (AP) _ Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas is vowing to fight the Department of Interior's plan to cut funding for the Southern Plains Indian Museum in Anadarko.
The department announced last year its plan to end funding for the museum, along with two other Native American museums in South Dakota and Montana. It wants to use the 400-thousand dollars used to fund the three museums to restrain counterfeit Indian artistry and craftsmanship.
Lucas says the Anadarko museum is important not only to the tribes whose history is housed there, but also to the economy of Anadarko.
