One of Tulsa's largest employers and one of the few big corporate headquarters is thinking about outsourcing its Information Technology department.
Dollar Thrifty held a meeting with its IT group Wednesday to tell them what they could be facing.
News on 6 business reporter Steve Berg says about 300 jobs are at stake. The meeting was Wednesday afternoon at the AMC theater.
Thursday, the News on 6 obtained a memo that went out company-wide. It mentions a 3 to 5-month time frame to determine if outsourcing the IT department makes sense. It says that has the largest potential cost saving for the company.
The memo says that Dollar Thrifty's "primary responsibility" to its shareholders, customers, and workers, is to stay competitive and profitable." And it says due to their existing relationship with EDS and the large Tulsa presence of EDS, they'll be working closely with EDS in this process. That last part might be the best news for Tulsa, if the jobs were to stay in Tulsa.
But we want to stress that the News on 6 talked with Dollar-Thrifty and they say they haven't made any final decisions on outsourcing or where those jobs would go.
