The stakes have been raised in a case of illegal damming on Barren Fork Creek.

The Environmental Protection Agency issued administrative orders this week to restore the Adair County stream to its original condition.

Two Adair County men, Darryl Cates and Eddy Murray, have been given 30 days to comply with the federal order or face civil penalties of more than $32,000 each day.

A Muskogee man, Andy Anderson, has 60 days to comply with a similar order or face the same penalties.

Barren Fork Creek is a designated scenic river.
