CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) _ A volunteer firefighter who was badly burned in a wildfire near Duncan last week is now breathing better on his own.
Destry Horton remains in critical condition in the burn center at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Horton's wife, Brandy, says he is resting well and could be removed from medication that is preventing him from moving.
Destry Horton is from Chickasha, but volunteers for the Acme Fire Department. He and another volunteer firefighter were burned on Wednesday while helping put out a fire in Stephens County that destroyed homes and a church.
At least five other firefighters suffered injuries during a statewide wildfire outbreak.
Brandy Horton says doctors are concerned about the greater possibility of serious infections due to burns that cover about 50 percent of husband's body.
His hands, arms, feet and face were badly burned.
