As you enter Spexton, a trendy jewelry store on Third Street, it's hard to imagine that it all came from very humble beginnings.
"Well I used to drive a truck, and I made a lot of the parts myself, so I kind of had an idea of how this machine worked," said Greg Shelton, who is part owner of Spexton.
"So we had some scraps and we decided to play with it and make jewelry," remarked co-owner Nate McPherson.
They had no idea that only four years later, Spexton would be featured during New York fashion week.
So what's the appeal?
"Men who are turned off by jewelry are instantly turned on by Spexton. It's just a simple, elegant understated product that they'll actually wear," said McPherson.
Both owners say following their dreams made all the difference.
"It gives you some kind of enjoyment to know that people enjoy what we make," said Shelton.
McPherson had another idea.
"Just wanted to work hard and create his own thing and see where it went," said McPherson.
He says the best part is being self-employed.
If you're interested in high fashion jewelry with down home roots, Spexton just might be your best bet.
