Homicide detectives hope enough time has passed that someone will help them solve the murder of a man who was killed after testifying in a high profile gang murder. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports 21-year-old Gregory McKinney had testified in a preliminary hearing about some gang members accused of killing Ples and Shelly Vann.
Police believe they were innocent victims killed in gang retaliation because of their sons. McKinney was murdered on August 9th, 2005, near B.C. Franklin Park.
"His body is found south of Highway 75 in a wooded area. He'd been shot several times," said TPD Officer Leland Ashley.
Police have some good evidence and understand people may be afraid of coming forward, but they say with the passage of time and people now behind bars, maybe a witness will now share what they know.
"It's been awhile since the crime happened. Someone may have it on their conscience and maybe they want to talk about it and get if off their conscience," said Officer Ashley.
Gregory McKinney's mother is suffering everyday her son's killer is not captured and she is desperately praying for answers in this case.
