Crews are starting to make progress in the wake of the damaging December ice storms in Tulsa. An Alabama company hired to do the clean-up is now in town and beginning to work. A typical dump truck can usually only carry about 10-cubic yards of debris, but the specialized trucks on this massive project in the city of Tulsa can haul 10 times that amount.
A spokesman for Storm Reconstruction Services says crews will haul between 40,000 to 50,000 cubic yards of debris every day during their first pass through the city. That could take two weeks or more. The trucks will then make two additional rounds; with a weekend in between so folks can move more debris to the curb.
If the workers find debris that is too difficult to get with their equipment, they will pass it by and come back with different equipment later on.
Many Tulsans are wondering when the trucks will be through their area. The News On 6 has that information by clicking here.
Once you open the link, you can click on the map. The map shows whether debris removal is already in progress during this first round. That area is highlighted in blue. The pink areas are Tulsa neighborhoods that have not yet been visited.
The city of Tulsa is also reminding residents to pile debris near the curb but away from utility equipment, mailboxes and fences. Officials also ask residents to avoid parking cars on streets where crews will be working.
