Tulsa police are trying to be pro-active to stop looters and burglars. They had academy recruits and detectives assisting the patrol officers, to canvass businesses on Tuesday. They were making a list of who has power and if not, who has access to additional security. The department also asked officers to volunteer to patrol in pairs of two Tuesday night, to prevent smash and grabs.
Officers arrested 12 people Monday night, four of them for burglary.
"We know some alarm systems are out. Unfortunately, the bad guys know that as well, so we're going to be out there," said Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer.
Palmer encourages homeowners, who have to leave for shelters, to secure the houses as much as possible and if there are any people staying on your block, have them watch your home.
