As of Jan. 1, OKDHS said that there are more than 7,500 kids in state custody just in Oklahoma alone, with about 1,200 of them coming from Tulsa County. Foster Recruiter Comfort Keidel said these children come into their system for a range of reasons and sometimes even show up in the middle of the night. She said, sometimes the kids only need a home for a few days while others end up in the adoption route, but either way they need somewhere to stay fairly quickly after being taken from their par

New Program Keeps Low-Income Oklahoma Students in Private School

The state of Oklahoma launched a program last summer to help low-income families keep their students in private schools. The Stay in School Fund tuition assistance program, launched by Governor Kevin Stitt in July, is said to have exceeded expectations in ensuring low-income families who suffered a COVID-19 related job loss or demonstrated financial challenges could keep their child in their learning environment. OESC Reminds Public To Report Unemployment Benefits On Taxes

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission is reminding the public that benefits will need to be reported on taxes this year. According to the OESC, many Oklahomans may have received unemployment benefits for the first time this year and may not know they have to report them. Reporting all unemployment benefits is required on both federal and state taxes.
