A McAlester prisoner is back in custody on Friday after police say he walked away from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester on Thursday. Officials said 52-year-old Kirby G. Yates walked away from the center minimum-security facility Thursday afternoon. The McAlester News-Capital reports that McAlester police officers took Yates back into custody around 11 p.m. on Thursday. Officials said Yates is serving a five-year sentence for first-degree arson.

The state reported nearly 444,000 Oklahomans have signed up as of 5 p.m. Thursday. The state also reported nearly 50,000 appointments have been scheduled for those who are eligible to get the vaccine right now, which includes healthcare workers and Oklahomans 65 and older. JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Divers found parts of the cockpit voice recorder on Friday as more personnel joined the search for wreckage and victims from an Indonesian plane that crashed last weekend in the Java Sea with 62 people on board.
