Local Daycare Waives Membership Fees For First Responders Needing Childcare

With the announcement of school closures, many metro parents are searching for daycares.

Those in need include medics, firefighters and police who are fighting COVID-19 on the front lines.

One Oklahoma City daycare has stepped up to cover the membership fees for first responders.

Spontaneity Kid Care said it’s their mission to make sure parents are covered.

“We wanted to offer a free membership for the month of March to all of our healthcare families, emergency personnel, everyone who has been displaced by this,” said Stacia Lancaster, Director of Spontaneity Kid Care.

As more and more companies transition their employees to work remotely, childcare is a growing concern among all parents.

Whether it's classroom, charter school, virtual, ect., moms and dads need to fill a gap until students head back to school on April 6.

Normally, Spontaneity Kid Care is a part-time facility, but they are asking for an exception in this case.

“Because we are a part-time program, kiddos can only be in our care for 6 hours in one day, 24 hours total in one week. We are currently trying to get in touch with DHS to extend that time to our healthcare parents,” said Lancaster.

Spontaneity Kid Care operates on an hour by hour base.

Parents can drop the kids off, as long as the business does not reach capacity.

They take ages 6 weeks to 12 years old.

DHS reports they've urged daycares to take proper precautions.

“We know that it takes a village. Our goal is to be a foundation to your village, so that you don't have to stress out so much,” said Lancaster.

Infant Crisis Services in OKC is also helping parents get formula, diapers and wipes if they can' find them in supermarkets.
