One nursing home in Binger said they saw their cases of coronavirus nearly double in just a few days. In a press conference, Governor Kevin Stitt touched on the impact the virus is having on nursing homes in the state.
“We are also starting be laser focused on our nursing homes, and long-term care facilities. That’s where a third of the deaths, of the 136 deaths in Oklahoma have come from,” said Stitt.
Those cases have been documented at dozens of facilities all across Oklahoma.
A prayer vigil was held Friday, and dozens in the communty showed their support.
“Just know…we are taking your loved ones health and safety seriously. They are our priority,” said Stephanie Warren, the nursing home’s administrator in a Facebook video.
COVID-19 has infected both patients and staff at the Binger nursing home. So far, 26 residents and 15 staff have tested positive.
When cases started to climb earlier in the week, people like Mark Price, a local pastor, stepped up.
He’s spent the last few days getting resources to the front lines.
Nursing home workers needed a place to stay and shower.
“The main thing that they said to me was that they need some RV’s/5th wheels to house their infected work staff there,” said Price. “The Baptist General Disaster relief are sending over a shower station where employees can take showers, and they also have a laundry facility inside this camper.”
First responders and anonymous good Samaritans also stopped by to show their support.
The facility has received donations including food, supplies and coffee pots. But friends said they need backup. This battle is too big, and they need reinforcements.
“I know the Army National Guard, I know they have nurses, and medical staff that come in and help,” said Price.
Staff said they still need laundry supplies like bleach and detergent.
Also, monetary donations would help as they move forward.
