Thinking about trying to break into the real estate industry? It’s a great industry to get involved in since it currently employs more than 1.1 million people.
When most people think of the real estate industry, they think of real estate agents. They’re the real estate employees that people see the most on a regular basis.
But there are so many other types of jobs in real estate that you can do if becoming a real estate agent doesn’t interest you. Take a look at some of the most common real estate jobs below.
A lot of people outside the real estate industry think real estate agents and real estate brokers are one and the same. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Becoming a real estate agent isn’t all that difficult to do. All you need to do is take some basic training classes and pass a test and you can call yourself a real estate agent.
Becoming a real estate broker is a lot harder as people are forced to take additional training courses and harder tests. They also have to obtain specific licenses that allow them to serve as brokers.
Many real estate agents graduate to becoming real estate brokers in the hopes of starting a real estate brokerage. This provides them with an opportunity to keep more of their earnings than they would be able to otherwise.
To be a successful real estate agent or broker, you need to be a real people person. You’re going to spend a ton of time working with home buyers and sellers every day.
If you would prefer to work behind-the-scenes and have a little less interaction with people, you might make out better as a real estate appraiser. As an appraiser, you’ll be responsible for figuring out how much homes are worth.
Real estate appraisers play a key role in real estate negotiations. They also play a big part in helping cities and towns all across the country to come up with home valuations for property tax purposes.
Real estate managers are also commonly called property managers. They’re in charge of helping real estate owners to maintain their properties. They’re also in charge of keeping tenants in these properties and collecting rent from them.
In exchange for their services, real estate managers are often paid a percentage of each month’s rent. It’s a potentially lucrative career for those who are able to manage a large stable of properties.
If you’ve ever sat down and tried to read through a real estate contract, you know how complicated these contracts can be. They almost look like they’re written in another language to the average person.
Real estate lawyers specialize in helping real estate buyers and sellers to understand what’s in a contract before signing it. There will always be a need for these types of jobs in real estate.
As you can see, there are many types of jobs in real estate for you to choose from—and these real estate positions are only the tip of the iceberg. There are lots of roles that you can fill in real estate if you have a desire to do it.
Consider what each of these types of jobs in the real estate industry has to offer. Find the one that you like best and chase after it.
