Things to Do in Lockdown BluesPhoto by Roberto Nickson

Moms are full of a resolve that’s virtually indestructible. Whatever life throws at them, they stand their ground and knuckle down. From the moment their kids are born they hold themselves to a higher standard, doing all that they can to mold themselves into a happy and positive role model for their little ones. However, as we’re all starting to show the strain of the recent lockdown, many of us are finding it hard to stay positive.

Many of us are separated from people we love including vulnerable elderly relatives. We’re unable to work or have had to adapt to working from home (usually with reduced pay). We’re all trying to stave off cabin fever and keep smiling.

But if you’re feeling the lockdown blues, these 5 things will get you through…

Disney+

Streaming services bring us access to huge libraries of content to help keep the kids entertained and help you to unwind after a long day. And for a Disney lover (and who among us isn’t) Disney+ is the gold standard. Check out the Streaming TV Guide and you can curate a fantastic program of entertainment for the whole family across Disney+ and other platforms like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Introduce your kids to your childhood favorites and explore new and classic movies alike together. As part of a balanced diet of activities, enjoying movies and TV shows together as a family can be enormously satisfying.

Hugs

The problem with the self-isolation is just that… it makes us feel isolated. We start to miss our siblings, our parents, friends, work colleagues. Heck, even our bosses. Even when we live in a home that’s full of family we can feel isolated. Don’t be afraid to ask your partner or your kids for a hug. You need one more than ever. Hugs can boost your mood and even strengthen your immune system. So a hug could be your greatest defense against the virus.

Food

The temptation to rely on Grub Hub and Postmates for every meal is strong when we’re feeling stressed and upset. However, while these are fine for a treat, a kitchen full of wholesome fruits, veggies, grains and pulses can help to get you through the lockdown with a smile on your face.

Veggies and fruits are full of fiber, protein, minerals and vitamins to help boost your immune system and improve your positivity. Studies have shown that vegetarian diets are proven to boost your mood and reduce stress. So be sure to eat more plants while on lockdown.

Video chat

You might not be able to see your friends in person, but don’t underestimate how healing it can be for you to see their faces via video chat. Schedule regular video chat sessions with friends and family who can’t be with you in person.

Animal Crossing

Finally, many are hailing the Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing as the single biggest source of positivity in their lives. There’s no denying that the addictive town building game and its adorable cadre of anthropomorphic animals have created a wholesome experience for players every single day. It’s great fun for kids and parents alike and you can even visit your friends on the island homes that they’ve made for themselves.

Now seriously, how cute is that?
