Group Hosting Virtual Day Of Action For More Safer At Home Guidelines

All day Wednesday, a group called Save Our State will hold what it calls a virtual day of action to ask Governor Kevin Stitt to extend his Safer at Home executive order until at least May 18th.

Save our State says based on data from the White House, the state needs to wait until it sees fewer COVID-19 cases for at least 14 days. So far, that hasn’t happened.

“If our frontline healthcare workers don’t have access to Personal Protective Equipment right now,” said Laura Bellis, one of the event organizers. “If we open businesses, will those workers have access to equipment to protect them too.”

The Governor’s “Safer at Home” executive order is up at the end of the month. His office said he plans to reopen the state on May 1st, based on Oklahoma data and input from state and federal health officials.

Save our State says Wednesday's Facebook Live will include healthcare professionals and experts in unemployment and housing.

Regardless of how you feel, the group asks everyone who attends to keep an open mind. “Everybody has a story,” said Nate Morris, another event organizer. “Everyone is struggling right now, this is hard on everyone and so how do we support each other collectively in this way?”

The group says it also started a petition.
