TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa Police said the man suspected of stealing beer then driving recklessly before a deadly crash is in the hospital in critical condition Tuesday night.

The wreck happened near 51st and Harvard Monday afternoon. A woman and a two-year-old girl were killed in the crash, police said.

Investigators said there was no car seat for the baby, and neither adult was wearing a seatbelt.

Officers said no one who was in that car has been identified yet. Police said the woman was not carrying an ID and officers don't know yet if the man's ID belongs to him.

Tulsa Police said the man stole a couple of cases of beer from a gas station on 61st, between Sheridan and Memorial. Investigators said a pickup truck was getting off I-44, and the car was going west on 51st when the crash happened.

Officers said the pickup truck driver is OK. His arm was hurt in the crash.

Witnesses told police the man in the car was speeding through neighborhoods and running red lights.

Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean said it is still not clear whether police were actually chasing the man when the crash happened.

“We don't know if there was any pursuit. Where it started, if there was one. Kind of the route, we don't know. We just know that they were in the area quickly and were able to get there fast, at least,” Bean said.

Police said if the driver of the car survives, they plan to pursue charges.
