TULSA, Okla. - Six seniors from Tulsa's Bishop Kelley High School earned appointments at military academies this year.
"These students are good examples of the servant leaders that are coming out of Bishop Kelley," said Principal Jim Franz.
Seniors Ella Austin, Doyle Gehring, Grant Govrik and Connor Othon were appointed to the Air Force Academy, Cori Lewis was appointed to the Military Academy at West Point, and Meaghan Cyr was appointed to the Naval Academy.
"You're competing in a way, but you're also like a team together, that's very rare, so we were all super excited when we got in," said Govrik.
It's unusual for one small school to have so many academy appointments, and it's a first for Bishop Kelley.
"They push you both physically and academically, and I was really drawn to that aspect," said Austin.
Father Gary Kastl, the President of Bishop Kelley said, "we strive to provide an education that forms the heart and mind and I think these students exemplify what we hope to accomplish."
