Thieves Steal $8,000 From Tulsa Woman's Checking Account, Police Say

An 81-year-old woman in Tulsa is struggling to get back on her feet after police said thieves used her checking account information to go on an $8,000 shopping spree.

Jane has lived in Tulsa since 1962. She loves this community and this community loves her.

"They named the recreation center after me," said Jane.

Tulsa is Jane's home and she said she has always felt like she could trust people.

"I did and that I was safe. Then I am finding out that there are different people," said Jane.

On Saturday she noticed some strange charges on her bank account. Charges, she said she never made.

"I never dreamed anybody would do this to me- to anybody actually," said Jane.

Her son helped her file a report with TPD.

"It hurts. It hurts. It really does and this could make all of my checks for my bills start bouncing because it was coming out of my checking account," said Jane.

Officers said several people are suspected of using Jane's checking account information to buy things in Owasso, Sapulpa, Claremore, Wagoner, Pryor, Broken Arrow and Joplin.

"I was raised by my dad and my grandparents and if I can help somebody that is what I will do but these people that did this to me, yeah I'm going to help them but it will be a different type of help," said Jane.

$8,000 is a lot of money to lose.

"Having this done and then losing my job. They are eliminating my position at work," said Jane. "Things are piling up. They are piling up, but I know that God doesn't put any more on you than you can stand. I know that I will come through this. I know that I will."
