Terence Crutcher's family is reacting to a Minneapolis mural getting attention from people all over the world. The art mentions Terence Crutcher's name.
He was killed by a Tulsa Police Officer in 2016. A jury found the officer who shot him not guilty.
"All I could think about was Terence's- our last conversation," said Terence Crutcher's twin sister, Dr. Tiffany Crutcher "He told me that, 'I'm going to make you proud.' He even stated that, 'I am overcoming a lot, but the world is going to know my name.' He said that. And his last statement was, 'God is going to get the glory out of my life.'"
There is a list of names on the mural alongside Terence Crutcher's. Dr. Crutcher says each name represents a family who is still grieving.
"Never in a million years would I think I would be on the other side of this thing. It is exhausting and it is painful. I just pray that attitudes are being shifted," said Dr. Crutcher.
Terence Crutcher's name is spelled incorrectly in the Minneapolis mural, but Dr. Crutcher says that doesn't make the piece any less powerful because her brother's story isn't just part of Tulsa's history now but the country's.
"People from every different walk of life, every race, and every background. They are screaming in the streets Black Lives Matter. We can't let our foot off the gas. We have to keep pushing but I believe that this is truly, the turning point," said Dr. Crutcher.
