More than a dozen employees furloughed because of COVID-19 are heading back to work at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at Warren Place.
“I have got a full front desk, about 6 deep over there right now! I haven’t seen that in 5 months!” said DoubleTree at Warren Place General Manager Scott Meyer.
Over 100 people working here lost their jobs because of the pandemic, and Meyer said he is doing everything he can to bring those employees back.
“That was the toughest day of my career and this is starting to be some of the most exciting days. It is one day at a time but each day, if I am able to bring one person back and get a few more people in, it just feels good,” said Meyer.
39 employees are back at work tonight just in time for a busy weekend. About 200 rooms are booked as families travel into town for baseball games in the area and a bodybuilding competition held at the hotel.
“I enjoy my job. I enjoy seeing new people all of the time,” said hotel employee Sally Candido.
“We had tears in our eyes, we did, just to call them back and hear the happiness in their voice and us looking at each other going, ‘We made it.’ That kind of told us, we made it. It is not over but we made it,” said Meyer.
