Health Officials Launch Oklahoma COVID-19 Alert System

On Thursday, state health leaders launched Oklahoma's COVID-19 Alert System.

The system uses data from the state health department to assign one of four different risk levels to each county in the state.

This move comes as the Oklahoma State Health Department said nearly 18,500 cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed across the state since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Alert System uses colors to coordinate to the risk level in each county.

Green counties have the lowest risk level, followed by yellow, orange, and red is for the counties with the highest risk.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health determines the color categories based on the number of daily new cases per 100,000 people.

Currently, there are no red counties. OSDH will determine a county is in this high-risk level if the number of daily cases exceeds approximately 14 per 100,000.

The State Department of Health will also consider a county in the red zone if one of four thresholds occur within a week. These thresholds are determined by hospital beds and technology available.
