On Thursday, Tulsa Police responded to a possible burglary in process near Riverside drive, but when the suspect was located, he jumped into the Arkansas River.
Police said the suspect attempted to escape and swam downstream in his efforts. Tulsa Fire Department’s Water Rescue Unit deployed boats onto the river and the suspect was eventually caught. At the scene, the suspect refused to identify himself, but police have identified the suspect as Christopher Coffey.
Tulsa Police and Tulsa Fire worked to also recover the backpacks from the Arkansas river which officials said were full of suspected stolen items.
Police said Coffey escaped from Jackie Shannon prison earlier in the year.
Police said Coffey will be held without bond until he is extradited back to DOC custody.
