An OSU-Tulsa professor is using Facebook to help parents teach their kids about racism in America.

Professor Quraysh Ali Lansana kicked off his Facebook Live series Tuesday at noon. The hour-long video is now up on the OSU-Tulsa Facebook page.

Lansana, who is also an accomplished writer, is partnering with Tulsa Kids magazine, OSU-Tulsa, and Tri-City Collective on the project called "Dismantling Racism: A Toolkit for Parents." Both Lansana and the editor of Tulsa Kids will serve as hosts.

Lansana said he will be sharing many of his own experiences living and teaching in different parts of the country, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and New York, where he earned his MFA from New York University and served as a faculty member of The Juilliard School's Drama Division. He also said he'll be talking with young people about ways racism affects their lives.

"[We'll be] breaking down terms, concepts, and ideas to help parents. Not only parents, but parents to work with their children, to abandon, or become aware of, ways in which they could be better regarding race."

The first episode, "Racism 101," is up on the OSU-Tulsa Facebook page right now. The next two live events will be on the next two Tuesdays on that same Facebook page.
