When Bixby students go back to class, some of them will be in a brand new building.

On Friday, officials cut the ribbon on Bixby West Elementary and Intermediate School at 151st and Harvard. The 155,000 square foot campus will house more than 900 students with 42 classrooms, two art rooms, multiple band rooms, and two gyms that both serve as storm shelters.

"We hope that this building, we're pretty confident, that it aligns with our vision to really empower students to learn, to excel, to own their future. We know that in about 10 days, come COVID or high water, we're going to open these doors and we're going to have students all over this school,"

Bixby Public Schools will start the year with only half of the student body on campus for a week and the other half online.
