Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum announced a local architecture company will begin designing expansions for the city's animal shelter near east 36th Street north and Yale.
The city said the $4.7 million expansion project was approved through the Improve Our Tulsa program.
The expansion plan includes a new lobby, building a separate adoption center, and adding dog walking trails along Coal Creek.
“We are committed to improving conditions for animals in our community and to addressing the staggering challenges of pet overpopulation,” said Bynum. “Our facilities are fundamental to that commitment, and this work is long overdue.”
The firm will also be evaluating opportunities to make the entire facility more customer friendly and inviting, with relatively modest investments in signage and public art.
